Ingredients:

  • 170g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 115g cream cheese (softened)
  • 300g granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 200g all-purpose flour
  • 50g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 120ml milk (whole or 2%)
  • 120g semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pan & Oven
    • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
    • Grease and flour a loaf pan or bundt pan, then line with parchment paper if using a loaf pan.
  2. Cream Butter, Cream Cheese & Sugar
    • In a large bowl, beat butter, cream cheese, and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Add Eggs & Vanilla
    • Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    • Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients
    • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Combine Batter
    • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk.
    • Mix until just combined—do not overmix.
    • Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Bake the Cake
    • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
    • Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool & Serve
    • Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
    • Slice and enjoy as is, or serve with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
