Gluten Free Pop Tart Recipe – The Best DIY Treat (Step-by-Step)

Ingredients:

For the  Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups gluten-free all-purpose  flour
  • 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup jam or preserves (your choice of flavor)
  • 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions:

  1. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, combine gluten-free flour and confectioners’ sugar. Add cold butter and use a pastry blender or fingers to work it into the flour mixture until crumbly.
  2. Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until the dough comes together.
  3. Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  5. Cut Out the Shapes: Use a rectangle cookie cutter or a knife to cut out rectangles of dough (about 4 inches x 6 inches).
  6. Assemble the Pop Tarts: Place a spoonful of jam or preserves in the center of half the rectangles. Top with another rectangle of dough and press the edges to seal.
  7. Bake the Pop Tarts: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the Pop Tarts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Glaze the Pop Tarts: Mix confectioners’ sugar with a little water to make a glaze. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled Pop Tarts.

  • Add sprinkles or other toppings to the glaze for extra decoration.
  • Store the Pop Tarts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
